The Malaysia Government has allocated RM 11.4 billion under the 9MP to transform the agriculture sector into modern, dynamic and competitive sector.
The local poultry industry produces about 764,000 tonnes of chicken meat and 7 billion eggs per year. 1.2 million tonnes of meat produced annually, 80% is chicken meat. About 10% - 15% of chicken meat produced is exported, mainly to Singapore. Local poultry operators produce about 16 million eggs daily, out of which 2 million are exported to Singapore.
The Klang Valley area in Malaysia will soon have a new and modern poultry slaughterhouse. The MYR 20 million facility, slated for completion in 2008.
Stork PMT BV of the Netherlands confirmed recently the sale of a poultry processing line to Malaysia's CAB Cakaran. The processing line is valued at MYR 7.29 million ( USD 1.94 million ). Farm's Best has on the drawing board, plans to set up a cooked-food plant and introduce more products. Production is likely to commence in early 2007. |

The production and consumption of eggs in Thailand is projected to increase in 2006. The production of eggs in 2006 would be around 9 - 9.2 billion units, a rise from around 8.8 billion in 2005.
Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc ( CPF ) expects its cooked chicken product exports this year to rise by 30% to 104,301 tonnes. The Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association estimated that Thailand's total chicken exports would jump 32% to 350,000 tonnes this year.
Swine production in 2006 is estimated to be around 11.33 millions pigs, a rise of 4.2% year on year, due to a shift to pork consumption among consumers who are concerned about chicken consumption because of the bird flu.
Betagro Group of Thailand predicts that its total sales this year will rise by 20% this year to THB 30 billion ( USD 772 million ). Total feed production in Thailand is around 11 million tonnes / year. Thailand's pork exports in 2006 are expected to surge 24% year-on-year. |

The Xinhua news agency reported that animal husbandry has become a pillar of China's rural economy, with output reaching CNY 1217.4 billion ( USD 152.1 billion ) in 2004, accounting for 33.6% of the total agricultural output value.
Beijing Yukou Poultry, one of China's top poultry integrators specialising in commercial layer production, feed production and meat processing, has disclosed its new expansion plan for a feedmill with 150,000 mt annual production capacity.
Yongda Food, one of China's largest halal poultry meat producers based in central China's Henan province, has set up a new plant in Tangyin to increase its annual meat production to over 40,000 metric tonnes this year. A new pork processing plant of Sihai Group or Four Oceans, a major pork cuts producer based in Ziyang, China, will start production in March.
China Yurun Food Group Ltd is collaborating with the Beixu Group and investing in a pig slaughtering and processing project in Luohe City, worth up to CNY 300 million ( USD 37.27 million ). Since the merger of New Hope and Shandong Liuhe in May 2005, its feed production more than double to reach nearly 6 million metric tones last year. |

Philippine poultry production reached 1,136.2 thousand tonnes from January to Spetember 2005, up 16% from the same period in 2004, records from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics showed. Total value of production of the poultry subsector for the period was posted at PHP 73.3 billion ( USD 1.4 million ), up 3.77% from the previous year.
Chicken egg production posted the biggest increase in output, growing by 8% to 233,820 tonnes, valued at PHP 15.1 billion ( USD 281 million ). |

| The Indonesian government has allocated about USD 900 million for the fight against avian influenza ( AI ) over the next three years. This is in addition to a pledge of USD 800,000 by the United State and Singapore to finance a pilot project to fight the virus in Tangerang, Banten province. |

CP Vietnam Livestock Co plans to build a new meat processing plant worth USD 30 million in Vietnam's southern province of Binh Duong. With a capacity of 40,000 tonnes / year, the plant is four times bigger than the company's existing processing facility in Dong Nai province that processes 800 tonnes of chicken, pork and shrimp per month.
Dong Nai Food Industry Corporation will spend VND 36 million ( USD 2.27 million ) to build a processing plant in Vietnam's southern province of Dong Nai. Vietnam's chicken processor Phu An Sinh will build a new chicken processing plant in South Vietnam. It will have a capacity of 1000 birds / hour. Cargill Vietnam Ltd has started building its sixth feedmill in the country worth USD 12 million. |
